Our Troop's Story

Troop 280 was founded in March 2009 with 8 scouts and 4 adult leaders.  A charter to the national Boy Scouts of America was entered by River of Life United Methodist Church and ROLUMC continues to allow use of their facility even though they are no longer our charter organization. In 2023, A Group of Concerned Citizens became our new Charter Organization.

The troop was founded on the principles of traditional scout skills and based on the four Aims of Scouting: Character Development, Citizenship Training, Physical and Mental Fitness, and Leadership Development.

These Aims are achieved by following the eight fundamental methods, as prescribed by Boy Scouts of America: Patrol Method, Ideals, Outdoor Program, Advancement, Adult Association, Personal Growth, Leadership Development, and Uniform.

Our Approach

The mission of Troop 280 is to develop young men into the leaders of tomorrow by employing the Aims of Scouting as mentioned above.  We focus on teaching traditional Scout Skills using the Edge method (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable).  Troop 280 is a Scout led troop and adult leadership serve to mentor and guide scouts as they engage in educational troop meetings, fun activities, campouts, and summer camp opportunities.
